Description

This large forest industry operation in the Greater Vancouver area employs over 400 and has assets of $300 million.  This facility produces a wide variety of commodity and engineered products for clients around the world.

The plant has recently installed a new Cleaver Brooks D-Style Industrial Watertube Boiler.  Complete specifications available upon request.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Chief Power Engineer’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Steam and Gas department in accordance with the provincial Power Engineers Act and Regulations
  • Ensures all pressure vessel repairs, alterations, installations, and operations are in compliance with BC Technical Safety requirements
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for all equipment in boiler house
  • Leads safety programs, establishes safety objectives, and tracks progress
  • Engages personnel in the review and changes affecting safe operating and lock-out procedures
  • Ensure personnel adhere to strict safety protocol and practices in the execution of their responsibilities and provides the training and tools to perform work safely
  • Develops operating and maintenance parameters to enhance efficiency, energy conservation, environmental performance, while complying with corporate and government safety and environmental regulations
  • Delegates responsibility and authority to Shift Engineers and Firemen; to carry out the safe and efficient operation of the department and directs the maintenance of all area equipment
  • Plans, coordinates, and leads annual maintenance shutdown activities in the Boiler house to ensure the shutdown is well planned and executed and start-up is safe and on schedule
  • Provides coaching and leadership to department personnel. Utilizes and develops core strengths and abilities within the team

Major Qualifications and Skills: 

  • This position requires a valid BC 1st Class First-Class Power Engineer Certificate or minimum of 6 exams completed towards 1st Class First-Class Power Engineer Certificate
  • Knowledge and understaffing of high-pressure boilers and other auxiliary equipment
  • Ability to analyses utility systems and recommend cost saving measures
  • A strong safety mindset
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others without having direct authority
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the flexibility to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions
